Kinshasa, January 22 nd, 2019 (CPA).- The European Union (EU) has taken note of the victory of Félix Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo in the presidential election of December 30th, 2018, after a meeting of the European Council, held on Tuesday in Brussels, according to official sources.
According to the source, the official proclamation of Felix Tshisekedi as President of the DRC by the Constitutional Court in Kinshasa and the recognition of this result by « heavyweights of the African diplomatic scene, such as South Africa” created a state fact. However, the EU has expressed hope for national consensus in the DRC.The Constitutional Court, it is recalled, confirmed on January 19, 2019 provisional results announced on January 10 by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), proclaiming provisionally elected Felix Tshisekedi Tshilombo, President of the DRC.
He thus becomes the 5th President of the DRC, after Joseph Kasa-Vubu, Mobutu Sese Seko, Laurent-Desire Kabila and Joseph Kabila Kabange. He succeeds Joseph Kabila Kabange who took power in 2001 after the assassination of Laurent Désiré Kabila, his father, and elected in 2006 and re-elected in 2011 each time for a five-year term.
