President Felix Tshisekedi reassures of his involvement in the pacification of eastern DRC

Kinshasa, April 19th, 2021 (CPA).– The President of the Republic, Felix Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo, in his capacity as Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces of DRC (FARDC) and guarantor of the nation, reassured the delegation of members of the civil society in Beni, Butembo, in Nord Kivu as well as that of Ituri province, for its involvement in the issue of insecurity in their regions in order to put an end to it, said a source close to the Presidency of the Republic.

Prof. Julienne Lusenge, head of the delegation, made it known, after a hearing that the Head of State Felix Tshisekedi granted him and his suite, on Saturday, at the city of the Union African (AU).

« The President of the Republic, who was assisted by some military authorities and his special adviser on security, reiterated his campaign promise to set up his headquarters in Beni in Nord Kivu in order to closely monitor this worrying situation » , said Julienne Lusenge.

Previously, the delegation, which included representatives of various categories of the population, in particular students and women from civil society movements in Beni, Butembo and Ituri, had made a plea against the insecurity and the massacres perpetrated in recent days, in eastern DRC.

The students had, for their part, transmitted to the Head of State their demands on the resumption of the interrupted courses because of the attacks perpetrated by the terrorists of the Allied Democratic Forces / Uganda National Liberation Army (ADF / ALU) in their country.

“This situation created psychosis among students and greatly disrupted the life of universities”, they said.

All dressed in white, a symbol of peace, they had asked the Supreme Commander of the Armies for his involvement in the pacification of this part of the national territory.

ADF remain the most « mysterious » among the dozens (over 70) of armed groups scouring eastern DRC, as large as Western Europe.

Since last month, the United States has called ADF in DRC, along with an armed movement in Mozambique, « terrorist groups » affiliated with the Islamic State jihadist network.

The US State Department designates ADF, or the Allied Democratic Forces, under the name of « Daesh DRC », in reference to the Arabic acronym of the Islamic State (IS).

For the American ambassador to Kinshasa, Mike Hammer, the Biden administration supports the efforts of President Felix Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo and the Congolese government to fight against armed groups and terrorist groups, who’s funding, according to him, must be cut. ACP/Khonde
