Head of State Félix Tshisekedi pays last tribute to President Idriss Déby


N’Djamena, April 24th, 2021 (CPA) .- The President of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Félix Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo bowed on Friday in front of the mortal remains of President Idriss Déby Itno in place of the Nation just after his arrival at 9:35 am (local time) at Hassan Djamous international airport in N’Djamena. In his capacity as the current President of the African Union (AU), Head of State Félix Tshisekedi spoke first among a dozen leaders present at this official ceremony to pay a vibrant tribute to a great Pan-Africanist. He also pledged the support of the African Union to the National Transitional Council of Chad in accordance with the laws of that country. On the spot, the Chairman-in-Office of the AU paid tribute to Marshal of Chad alongside French President Emmanuel Macron. Indeed, the two Heads of State bowed side by side to the mortal remains of the one who ruled Chad for about 30 years. President Idriss Déby, it is recalled, died on April 20, 2021, from his wounds during fighting with the rebels Front pour la alternance et la concorde au Tchad (FACT). He had just been re-elected President of Chad for a sixth term. Since his death, it is his son, Mahamat Idriss Déby who has run the country. He is the head of the Transitional Military Council (CMT) which will lead the country to elections in 18 months. Congolese Head of State Félix Antoine Tshisekedi returned to Kinshasa on the same Friday afternoon.
