178 new confirmed cases of Covid-19 recorded Thursday in the DRC


Kinshasa, July 17th, 2021 (CPA).- One hundred and seventy-eight (178) new confirmed cases of Covid-19 were recorded Thursday in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), out of 2,361 samples tested, including 76 cases in Kinshasa, 44 in Tshopo, 26 in North Kivu, 14 in Haut-Uélé, 8 in Kasaï Central, 7 in Haut-Katanga, and 3 in Lualaba, reports the daily bulletin of the Technical Secretariat of the Multisectoral Committee for the Response to Covid -19 reached the CPA on Friday.

Data on new deaths of confirmed cases and new recoveries in Covid treatment centers (CTCo) and among patients followed at home are not available, the same source indicates.

Since the declaration of the epidemic on March 10, 2020, the cumulative number of cases in the DRC is 45,426, including 45,425 laboratory-confirmed cases and 1 probable case. In total, there were 984 deaths and 28,801 people cured.

The Covid-19 test is free in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, except for travelers who will have to pay 30 US dollars, it is recalled.

All the twenty-six (26) provinces of the DRC are now affected by this pandemic as follows: Kinshasa (32,216 cases), North Kivu (3,767 cases), Kongo Central (2,514 cases); Haut-Katanga (2,385 cases); Lualaba (1,159 cases); South Kivu (1,016 cases); Ituri (699 cases); Tshopo (554 cases); Haut-Uélé (398 cases); Ecuador (231 cases); Nord-Ubangi (103 cases); Kasai (82 cases); Sud-Ubangi (62 cases); Kasaï Central (53 cases); Haut-Lomami (49 cases); Maniema (42 cases); Kasai Oriental (38 cases); Tanganyika (19 cases); Kwilu (15 cases); Bas-Uélé (7 cases); Kwango (5 cases); Mongala (5 cases); Sankuru (4 cases); Tshuapa (3 cases); Mai-Ndombe (2 cases); Lomami (2).

The vaccination campaign against Covid-19 suspended in the DRC for lack of vaccines

The bulletin of the Technical Secretariat of the National Multisectoral Committee for the Response to the Covid-19 Pandemic also indicates that vaccination against Covid-19 with the Astrazeneca vaccine is suspended in the DRC for lack of vaccines. 190,230 doses of vaccines have expired (provisional figure) in the provinces and 7,350 in the large warehouse of the Extended Vaccination Program (EPI) of Kinkole in Kinshasa.

Since the start of the vaccination, on April 19, 2021 until Saturday July 10, 2021, seventy-six thousand seven hundred and twenty-four (76,724) people have been vaccinated in thirteen (13) provinces of the DRC, with the AstraZeneca vaccine.
