Kisangani, October 11th, 2021 (CPA) – The temporary governor of Tshopo province, Maurice Abibu Sakapela, discussed last weekend in Kisangani with a delegation of the health authorities of this province and technical and financial partners around the organization of the vaccination campaign against meningitis in Banalia territory scheduled from October 9th to 13th, 2021.
The provincial Minister in charge of Health of Tshopo, Luc Alungu, who led this delegation to the provincial governor, explained that this single-dose vaccination campaign concerns the entire population of this territory aged one year over and over in twenty health areas that make up Banalia health zone.
The meningitis epidemic raging in Banalia has affected at least 1,610 cases since its appearance, including 193 deaths with an average of 300 cases per week. The epicenter of the epidemic is Panga city. Thanks to the involvement of the provincial government of Tshopo, the trend of contamination of this epidemic is declining with approximately 44 new cases in eight health areas per week. ACP /
