Kinshasa, October 12th, 2021 (CPA) – The UNESCO Office in the Democratic Republic of the Congo launched Tuesday in Kinshasa, in collaboration with the Congolese government, the work of the third report on the state of the national education system (RESEN- DRC III), which will make it possible to make an exhaustive, deep and solid diagnosis of the DRC’s educational sector with a view to its transformation. The aim of these meetings is, according to UNESCO’s education officer, Omar Diop, to operationalize the sector analysis and identify the gaps in relation to the objectives of the education sector strategy and training (SSEF) which defines the priorities for action by 2025. For him, the context of the DRC is marked by important changes that have taken place since the completion of RESEN 2014. It is essential, he said, for the country and its technical and financial partners to update the diagnosis. sector in order to take into account the new challenges and to have the necessary benchmarks for the adjustment of educational policies and strategic choice options. The Permanent Secretary of SPACE (Permanent Secretariat for Support and Coordination of the Education Sector), Valère Munsia, noted, for his part, a difficult socio-economic context facing the SSEF in its fifth year of implementation, due to in particular to the crisis caused by the Corona virus pandemic which had a considerable impact on economies, public finances and the proper functioning of the education system. Ms. Christine Nepa Nepa, Acting Secretary General of Primary, Secondary and Technical Education (EPST), for her part, spoke of the mobilization of the necessary resources to face the major challenges of the DRC’s education system. She welcomed the commitment of the Head of State Félix Antoine Tshisekedi to place free basic education among the priorities of his five-year term, a vision materialized by Prime Minister Jean Michel Sama Lukonde.
