Six people from the same family are said to have died of suffocation after a fire in Lemba


Kinshasa, October 14th, 2021 (CPA) – 6 people from the same family, are said to have died on Wednesday from asphyxiation following a fire in a plot located on avenue Elila, Commercial district in Lemba municipality, the mayor of Lemba municipality, Jean Nsaka, confirmed to the press the same day.

According to the municipal authority, the scientific police will carry out investigations to elucidate the exact cause of this fire and the death of these 6 people including a man, working in a bank in the place, his mother, his wife, as well as three of their children.

Jean Nsaka, for this purpose, praised the efforts of the neighbors who knew how to control the fire despite the tragedy, affirming that the cause is not yet known, nevertheless the fire consumed a good part of this house causing significant material damage.

The municipality of Lemba municipality, who made the trip to the scene of the tragedy to soak up the circumstances, offered his condolences to the grieving family.

According to the testimonies collected from neighbors including Serge Lidu who declared: « we could not identify the exact cause of this tragedy, it was around 2 o’clock or 3 o’clock in the morning, we noticed that there was a fire in the room house and we went above to break the house. And, there was a gas stove in the kitchen, that’s how we saw the bodies of the victims in the bedroom and in the kitchen without being charred”.

It should be noted that elements of the Red Cross transported these bodies to the morgue of the general referral hospital in Kinshasa pending the conclusions of the forensic investigations. ACP /
