Kinshasa, November 24th, 2021 (CPA).– The special advisor to the President of the Republic in charge of youth and the fight against violence against women, Chantal Mulop, revealed Monday at the UN Women DRC headquarters in Kinshasa, in his intervention at the consultative meeting of women’s organizations, some objectives of the conference of African Heads of State on positive masculinity, which will be held Thursday in the capital. This includes formulating recommendations that will be incorporated into the declaration that the Heads of State of the African Union will adopt. For her, violence against women and girls, considered by the African Union as one of the most flagrant forms, is a major obstacle to the realization of the fundamental human rights of women, which is why, a- she argued, it was imperative that this conference be held. These women leaders, met in consultation, as part of the preparations for the conference on positive masculinity, in order to bring out the resolutions and recommendations in the light of the theme chosen for the summit. Four themes were developed during this meeting, namely “Sexual violence, including in times of conflict”; “Early marriage and pregnancy, female genital mutilation and other harmful cultural practices”; “Limited access to land and other resources” as well as “Participation of women in decision-making”. Chantal Mulop’s speech came after those of Awa Ndiaye Seck and Bineta Diop, respectively representative of UN Women in the DRC and gender commissioner of the African Union.
