President Félix Tshisekedi reassures the resumption of work on the Katende dam in Kasaï Central

Kananga, January 5th, 2022 (CPA)  .- The President of the Republic, Félix Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo, reassured the resumption of construction work on the Katende hydroelectric power station on the Lulua river, in the Dibaya territory, in Kasai Central, during a visit he made on Sunday to the site of the said dam. The Head of State expressed his willingness to do everything possible to provide the central region of the country with stable and permanent electrical energy, before expressing the importance that represents for Grand Kasai, the erection of this hydroelectric power station capable of delivering 64 megawatts. Previously, the Head of State had followed with interest the explanations provided to him by Indian experts on the evolution of civil engineering works already carried out at 65% as well as the difficulties encountered on the ground before visiting the different parts of the site namely, the dam and the warehouse where the materials are stored as well as the machines stopped for a long time. Construction work on this dam, located 100 km from Kananga, on the right bank of the Lulua River, a sub-tributary of the Congo River, was suspended a few years ago, following insecurity and looting of materials, linked to the “kamwina Nsapu” phenomenon which had as its epicenter the territory of Dibaya where the site is located. This work was relaunched 10 months ago. The central government has financed the resumption of transporting materials blocked in the facilities of the National Company of Congo Railways (SNCC) in Lubumbashi for their transport to the site via the Tshimbulu train station, it is recalled.
