National MPs demand their involvement in the election of provincial governors


Kinshasa, February 18th, 2022 (CPA) – National deputies expressed, on Thursday, before the President of the National Assembly, Christophe Mboso, their desire to be involved in the process of electing 14 of the 26 governors of the provinces of the DRC, during an audience granted to them by the speaker of the lower house of Parliament, at the People’s Palace. The spokesperson for national deputies explained the disposition of his colleagues to be involved in the process of electing these provincial governors in the same way as senators, ministers and provincial deputies. « We cannot start a process of electing 14 governors without taking into account the opinion of national deputies », indicated the spokesperson for national elected representatives. The Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI) presented, Thursday, February 3rd, 2022, the new revised calendar for the election of governors and vice-governors in 14 provinces, thus fixing the election for April 6, it is recalled. This date will be preceded by the reorganization of the offices for the reception and processing of applications as well as the electoral campaign. The election concerns 14 provinces of the DRC, namely, Bas-Uele, Lomami, Kasaï-Central, Kasaï-Oriental, Kongo-Central, Mai-Ndombe, Maniema, Mongala, Tanganyika and the Tshopo. In addition to the governors, the election also targets the vice-governors of the provinces of Kinshasa and Kwango, in accordance with the prescriptions of article 160 of the electoral law.
