Kinshasa, February 21st, 2022 (CPA).– The President of the Republic, Felix Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo paid a last tribute to the former President of the Supreme Court of Justice and of the Constitutional Court, Benoît Lwamba Bindu Bya Maganga, who died on January 17th, 2022, in Brussels following illness, during a public tribute ceremony organized last Saturday in the hall of the People Palace in Kinshasa.
During the funeral, the Head of State also decorated him, posthumously, raising him to the highest rank of the dignity of national orders as Grand Cordon of the Order of Kabila-Lumumba National Heroes, announces the Presidency on its twitter account.
Shortly before the arrival of the President of the Republic, the ceremony began with the solemn audience of the Constitutional Court, followed by the laying of wreaths.
In the funeral oration, the President of the Constitutional Court, Dieudonne Kaluba recalled and praised the exceptional career of this senior magistrate.
Benoit Lwamba Bindu, who died at the age of 77, resigned from his post on July 10th, 2020 for reasons of personal convenience.
Several heads of the country’s institutions were present at this ceremony, including the President of the Senate Modeste Bahati and that of the National Assembly Christophe Mboso as well as the President of the Constitutional Court, Dieudonne Kaluba, that of the Court of Cassation, Mukendi and the members of the government and the cabinet of the Head of State.
Born on July 19th, 1945 in Greater Katanga, Benoît Lwamba was a senior Congolese magistrate. Of great integrity and sympathetic, he held several positions of responsibility in the field of justice throughout DRC.
In 1997, Benoît Lwamba was director of the cabinet of the special adviser to the President of the Republic Laurent Desire Kabila, in terms of security. He will also assume the functions of first president of the Supreme Court of Justice in 1999.
He assumed the same functions in 2003, under President Joseph Kabila with the 1+4 regime. Benoît Lwamba actively participated in the establishment of 2006 Constitution of DRC.
Under the regime of President Felix Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo, Benoît Lwamba in his capacity as President of the Constitutional Court validated the results of the 2018 presidential election.
He also participated in the peaceful transfer of power between outgoing President Joseph Kabila and incoming President Felix Tshisekedi.
He assumed the function of President of the Constitutional Court until 2020, before his resignation for reasons of personal convenience. Dead at 77, Benoît Lwamba left a widow and several children. ACP/
