A delegation from the expanded joint border verification mechanism received at the Ministry in charge of National Defense

Kinshasa, March 17th, 2022 (CPA).- The Minister in charge of National Defense and Former Combatants, Gilbert Kabanda Kurhenga, received, on Wednesday, a delegation from the expanded joint border verification mechanism (MCVE) led by Angolan General Jose Miranda, come to present her courtesies and examine the security situation in the region and particularly that of the eastern part of DRC.

Jose Miranda underlined, at the end of the hearing, that this structure extended to other countries of the International Conference of the countries of the Great Lakes Region (CIRGL) based in Goma, in Nord Kivu, was set up in September 2012 and includes military experts from member states who monitor and investigate security incidents in the Great Lakes region.

The Congolese Minister in charge of National Defense, at the end of this meeting, reaffirmed the determination of the government, through his ministry, to restore peace in the eastern part of the country.

This mechanism’s mission is to help maintain peace and stability, within the framework of the mandate of the United Nations and the African Union.
