Kinshasa, May 20th, 2022 (CPA).- The Congolese are called to become eco-citizens so that the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) continues to keep its place and play its role in the face of the scourge of global warming. The president of the ecological party Soleil, Dr Médard Dieya-Dieya, said so Thursday, during an interview Thursday with the CPA, shortly before flying to Lubumbashi, capital of the province of Haut Katanga.

« Without the DRC, which is full of large forests and waterways, planet earth would experience an ecological disaster with immeasurable consequences », he argued, before mentioning the importance of raising awareness among populations on the actions to be taken aimed in particular at protecting and preserving the environment. He also underlined the contribution of the DRC in stabilizing the ecosystem in view of the current global warming on earth. The DRC suffers from an irrational exploitation of its natural resources In addition, Dr. Médard Dieya-Dieya said that the DRC also suffers from an irrational exploitation of its natural resources including wood and minerals, while the country can live without them. It is for this reason, he said, that his party is preparing to embark on the 2023 electoral deadlines, to propose laws relating to the protection of the environment because this area has long been neglected. In addition, he has indexed mining companies which, in his opinion, do not respect their commitments made relating to the protection of the environment. The country’s laws will have to be strengthened in this case in order to punish environmental criminals, he underlined, before arguing that the ecological party Sun has pledged to carry out awareness-raising and green diplomacy for the benefit of the DRC and of its populations.
