Head of State Félix Tshisekedi returns to Kinshasa after his official visit to Burundi


Kinshasa, May 26th, 2022 (CPA).- Head of State Félix Antoine Tshisekedi returned to Kinshasa on Thursday after his 72-hour official visit to Bujumbura, Burundi, at the invitation of his counterpart, Évariste Ndayishimiye. This visit by the President of the Republic accompanied by the First Lady, Denise Nyakeru Tshisekedi, was placed under the sign of the strengthening of the excellent relations of friendship, brotherhood and cooperation between the Burundian and Congolese peoples. The two Heads of State, determined to pacify their common border, nearly 600 km long, also visited some mainly agricultural projects in Burundi, with a view to sharing experience. In this context, President Félix Tshisekedi visited, in Gitega, the Institute of Agronomic and Zootechnical Sciences (IRAZ), a research unit in agronomy and zootechnics created by the member countries of the Economic Community of the Great Lakes Countries (CEPGL ), namely the DRC, Rwanda and Burundi, which is currently non-operational.

In addition, in this political province of Burundi, the Congolese presidential couple paid tribute to the late President Pierre Nkurunziza, at the mausoleum built in his honor. Previously, a warm welcome was reserved for the Head of State as well as the First Lady, Saturday, May 21st, at Melchior Ndadaye international airport, and on the arteries of Bujumbura, before the reception of the Congolese delegation in Ntare House, Presidential Residence of Burundi, with 21 cannon shots.
