EAC Defense Force Chiefs of Staff agree on modalities for establishment of regional force

Goma, June 7th, 2022 (CPA) – The Chiefs of Defense Forces of the member countries of the East African Community (EAC) have agreed on the modalities for the establishment of a regional force intended to contain, defeat and eradicate the armed groups that roam the eastern part of the DRC, during the closing on Tuesday, of their work which was held from June 6th to 7th in Goma, North Kivu. This meeting follows the second conclave of Heads of State on the situation in the Democratic Republic of Congo, held on April 21 in Nairobi, Kenya, during which it was decided to convene a meeting of Heads of State- Major of the Defense Forces, to reflect on strategies for defeating negative forces in the region. During these meetings, chaired by General Robert Kibochi, Chief of the Defense Forces of Kenya, these chiefs of staff of the EAC reviewed the security situation in the East of the DRC, in addition to the examination of the report of the experts who met in Goma from 4th to 6th June 2022. The final communiqué, read by the Spokesperson for the military governor of North Kivu province, General Sylvain Ekenge Bomusa Efomi, made several recommendations. These recommendations will be validated at the next meeting of Heads of State, scheduled for June 15th -19th, 2022, in the Kenyan capital.
