Kinshasa, June 21st, 2022 (CPA) –The Congolese Federation of Football Association (FECOFA), confirmed, on Monday, the decision of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (TAS) and consecrated AS V.Club, champion of the 26th edition of the National Football League Championship (LINAFOOT ), after a clarification meeting, held at its headquarters, in the presence of representatives of Mazembe, Don Bosco, LINAFOOT and V.Club.
In the aftermath of this long-awaited reasoned decision by CAS, the general secretary of TP Mazembe, Frederic Kitenge hinted that CAS decision has nothing to do with the title, and therefore, Mazembe remains champion and will not the trophy received. FECOFA, which immediately called on all parties to hold back, pending Monday’s meeting, finally fixed the opinion, making things clear:
« The appeal filed by AS V.Club against of the decision rendered by the ad hoc commission of FECOFA, on June 15th, 2021, is admissible and partially admitted. The Court decides the cancellation of all the sanctions imposed on AS VClub by the decision of the ad hoc committee of FECOFA, namely: the forfeit of the matches in which the player Matutala Zao took part, and the suspension from against official correspondents of V.Club”, wrote the CAS in its reasoned decision. And to interpret, as the packages are canceled, V.Club recovers its 9 points and becomes automatically champion without any other form of trial.
FECOFA reiterated its appeal to all parties involved, because in the practice of football nothing can replace loyalty, discipline and fair play. V.Club therefore wins a case with which he fought to the end.
