DRC earns a place in FIFA rankings for August 2022

Kinshasa, August 25th, 2022 (CPA) -The Leopards of DRC have gained a place from 73rd to 72nd country in the world and from 14th to 13th in Africa, in the ranking of the International Federation of Football Association (FIFA) for the month of August 2022, published on Thursday, in Zurich, Switzerland.

For DRC to win this place, it is said, FIFA took into account several parameters, in particular the friendly matches delivered by the Leopards A’ against Congo Brazzaville, in anticipation of the double confrontation against the Sao of Chad in the framework of the eliminations of the next African Nations Championship (CHAN), Algeria 2023.

In the FIFA rankings for July 2022, DRC had fallen after their poor start to the qualifiers for the African Cup of Nations (CAN), Ivory Coast 2024, suffering two defeats in two outings.

In addition, at world level, football remains dominated in the top 10 by Brazil, which continues to monopolize first place, followed by Belgium, Argentina, France, England, Spain, Italy, the Netherlands, Portugal, and Denmark. While in Africa, the list of top five countries is as follows: Sadio Mane Senegal (18th in the world), Morocco (23rd), Tunisia (30th), Nigeria (31st), Cameroon (38th), Egypt (40th), Algeria (41st), Mali (46th), Ivory Coast (52nd), Burkina-Faso (55th), Ghana (60th), South Africa (68th), DRC (72nd), Cape Verde (73rd), and Gabon (79th).

Mauritania, which DRC will face back and forth for the 3rd and 4th day of CAN 2024 qualifiers next March, occupies the 107th place, it is reported.
