President Felix Antoine Tshisekedi insists on the implementation of the gas plant project of PERENCO group

Kinshasa, September 7th, 2022 (CPA).– The President of the Republic, Felix Antoine Tshisekedi, insisted during the 67th Council of Ministers which he chaired, last Friday by videoconference, on the urgent implementation of the construction project of the 250 Megawatt gas power plant initiated by PERENCO group in Moanda, in central Kongo.

This option taken by the Head of State is justified, indicated the government spokesperson, by the multiple energy challenges facing the country and which handicap the development of industrial activities.

« The President of the Republic returned to the case of PERENCO company, which practices the flaring of natural gas associated with the extraction of oil off-shore and onshore from the Atlantic coast basin », specified the Minister.

Also, he asked the Minister in charge of Hydraulic Resources and that of Hydrocarbons to open negotiations for the amendment to the concession contract for the production of 250 megawatts as planned by the operator, it is specified. .

Noticeable presence in Central Africa

Perenco’s activities have diversified in the past into oil storage and service barges. It is now active in particular in the North Sea (United Kingdom) and in Central Africa (Cameroon, Gabon, Congo-Brazzaville, Congo-Kinshasa).

Perenco is a Franco-British oil company. Perenco Group started its operations in the oil and gas industry in 1975 in Singapore as a maritime services company.

A few years later, the group was already supplying supply boats, work barges and tugs to exploration and production companies in Southeast Asia and the Persian Gulf.
