Kinshasa, September 21nd, 2022 (CPA) – The Minister in charge of National Defence and Veterans Affairs, Gilbert Kabanda Kurhenga, and his Ugandan counterpart, Vincent Bamulingashi, proceeded on Tuesday to the College of Advanced Studies in Strategy and Defence (CHESD), to the signing of intervention procedures between the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and the Ugandan People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) against the negative forces operating in DRC.

This signature was sealed during the second meeting to assess the pooling operations of the two forces, sanctioned by a final press release.

Colonel Batambobi, of FARDC communication and media service, who read it, noted the main points of this meeting, in particular the implementation of operational procedures for the treatment of persons belonging or suspected of belonging to terrorist groups, to the negative armed forces or other armed groups in eastern DRC, within the framework of joint operations.

Reaction of the Congolese and Ugandan Ministers in charge of Defence

The Congolese Defence Minister, in his address, praised the efforts made by the two Heads of State Felix Antoine Tshisekedi, of DRC, and Yoweri Museveni of Uganda, for the promotion of peace and development between the two countries and in the sub-region.

Also, he congratulated them for the establishment of this pooling of the two armies which are responsible for tracking down terrorists in the eastern part of DRC.

For his part, the Ugandan Minister Vincent Bamulingashi thanked his Congolese counterpart for the welcome and the progress of the work which only aims at peace in the Great Lakes, before proposing the provision of military, operational means to the troops and also supervising the military with a view to ensuring the promotion of human rights.

For his part, the representative of the American Bridge Way Foundation, Laren Poole, expressed his desire to support DRC in the search for peace, the basis for the development of any nation, because, he said, « if this phenomenon persists in the east of the country, it is because DRC has fought alone for a long time”.

The American foundation Bridge Way is a structure specialized in conflict resolution. She has proven experience in several countries such as CAR, Iran and Iraq, he concluded.

The Deputy Ministers in charge of Interior and Foreign Affairs as well as the Chief of General Staff of FARDC participated in this meeting.
