Taxation and mining code issues at the center of exchanges at the Ministry of Mines

Kinshasa, October 14th, 2022 (CPA).– The issues of taxation, para-fiscality and the mining code were pinpointed during discussions on Thursday between the Minister of Mines, Antoinette N’Samba Kalambayi and a delegation from the platform consultation with the government, led by the president of the Chamber of Mines, Louis K. Watum, learned the CPA Friday from this ministry. “Today, the mining sector is subject to all kinds of taxes that are completely outside the legal framework established by the Mining Code. These taxes tarnish the image of the mining sector as well as that of the country. We want to reflect on this subject to propose adequate solutions. We welcome the openness of the government through the patron saint of mines. She is ready to support us in this fight and, if necessary, involve the various sectoral ministries in charge of these various State services to really find solutions”, said Louis Watum. He gave the example of the single counter which, according to the code and the law, faces nearly five (5) counters. “The Chamber of Mines remains confident in the government, which is open to dialogue and ready to listen whenever it raises grievances,” he concluded.
