A film on cultural identity opens the 4th edition of the “documentary vision” festival

Kinshasa, November 24th, 2022 (CPA) – The 4th edition of the « documentary vision » festival opened on Wednesday at the large hall of the French Institute of Kinshasa (IFK) in the town of Gombe with the screening of the film: « The Rumba Kings », by director Previen Alain Brain, which recalls the Congolese identity through the testimonies of some tenors of this music and unpublished images of the colonial period.

The director’s representative, the cultural actor, Klay Mahungu, expressed his satisfaction: « I am happy to attend the screening of this film, especially since it was made by a foreigner who came to Congo in the framework of his work. He was seduced by this musical style, the rumba, which is similar to that of Cuba”, he said.

For him, this feature film was made with the aim of showing Congolese people that Congolese rumba is not just music for enjoyment, but rather a deep musical genre that even determines the way of life of a people while forging its identity. With the insertion of some sequences of the tragic past of the colonial era. « The film shows the origin and the importance of this music which knew how to bring the people to the awareness for independence », added Klay Mahungu.

The « documentary vision » festival is a creation of the production house called: « Bimpa ». This year, the organizing team intends to present the best productions from Congo and elsewhere to the Kinshasa public. This film festival, which runs from November 23rdto 26th, offers a few training workshop sessions on the production of documentaries and screenings, which will be held at the French Institute in Kinshasa, at the Wallonia-Brussels centre and at the Maison culture of “Mwindeurs”, we recall.
