Beni, December 26th, 2022 (CPA).- “The steps have already been taken to find the bodies of the 18 of the 23 cantors of the Upendo choir, victims of the shipwreck which occurred last Friday on Lake Edward in Kyavinyonge, in the south-east in the territory of Beni in the North- Kivu,” Colonel Charles Euta Omeonga, administrator of the Beni territory, announced on Monday.

« Of the twenty-five choir members who drowned on Lake Edward in Kyavinyonge town, five were recovered while eighteen other bodies still remain under water, » said Colonel Euta Omeonga, who informs that the steps are in progress to find and fish out the eighteen other bodies which remain untraceable.

The five survivors are doing well, reassured the administrator of Beni, before saying that the time has come to identify the causes of this sinking.

The singers of the Upendo choir left the town of Kyavinyonge for Kisaka where they were to animate the Christmas mass. The overloading of the whaleboat was the cause of this accident, denounced the pastor in charge of the CEBCA Kyavinyonge church who said he had signed a manifesto of the Eleven cantors and not of twenty five.
