The victims of Matadi Kibala in search of a solution at the governor of the city of Kinshasa

Kinshasa, January 24th, 2023 (CPA) – The disaster victims of Matadi Kibala, in the commune of Mont-Ngafula in the Democratic Republic of Congo, raided the Kinshasa City Hall on Tuesday, to ask the governor for a place for their accommodation.

« We, the inhabitants of the Maman Mobutu 2 neighbourhood, have come to ask the governor for a specific place where we can house our families in safety. We have lost our houses and some of us have lost their lives because of the heavy rains last year. We are victims of a tragic situation, we do not know what to do, we live in total insecurity, » they said. « That is why we came to meet the governor so that he and his government can find an urgent solution for us, » said Timo Mpululu Mpala, one of the victims.

He recalled that this raid comes after a series of other raids organised in front of Kinshasa City Hall without being received by the governor of Kinshasa or members of his cabinet.

The Maman Mobutu 2 neighbourhood has a problem with water pipes due to the lack of gutters, which means that every time it rains, the population is flooded. In addition, the district is threatened by 15 heads of erosion.
