Kinshasa, February 2rd, 2023 (CPA) – The presence of Pope Francis is a strong signal for a new political, economic and structural era in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), said on Wednesday, the national deputy elected from the territory of Kenge in the province of Kwango, Tharcisse Matadiwamba.

« I am very convinced that the presence of Pope Francis is a strong signal for a new political, economic and structural era in DRC. A new start in all the structures of the life of the Church of Congo and the Congolese State, » said Tharcisse Matadiwamba, in a statement made to the press in his office, in connection with the speech of the Pope.

The former national president of the DRC added that « the visit of the Holy Father to the DRC, the homeland of P.E. Lumumba, reflects his manifest desire to relieve the people who have been so wounded by an unjust and unjustified war.

« Despite his current health, he has decided to come and visit us. This is a sign of love that he has shown for our land and our people as well as for Africa in general, » the deputy said, adding that « in a purely spiritual framework, the Pontiff brings moral comfort to a people attacked, massacred, terrorised by hatred and the coveting of its wealth by its neighbours and multinationals.

« I liked it when the Pope compared this country to a diamond of nature.  It is simply to embrace us and remind us that we are priceless. This word is a denunciation, » reassured Mr Matadiwamba.

The national deputy said he was also satisfied with the fact that Pope Francis invited the country not to slide into tribalism and hatred. « The problem is not the nature of people or ethnic and social groups but the way we decide to be together, » he said.

Speaking about the pacification of the country, Mr Matadiwamba maintained that « the continuous repetition of violent attacks as well as the numerous situations of distress could not weaken the Congo. We have hope because reason always wins.

« I finally support what the Pope said when he called on young people to reject corruption, » he concluded.
