Women journalists invited to promote leadership in their newsrooms

Kinshasa, March 11th,  2023 (CPA), – Women journalists were invited on Friday in the Democratic Republic of Congo, to get more involved in the promotion of women’s leadership in their newsrooms, during a training workshop organised for them.

« The aim of the activity was to bring women journalists to update their knowledge on the promotion of women’s rights through the integration of women’s leadership in the management of newsrooms, » said Lucie Ngusi, Programme Officer of the NGO Journalists for Human Rights (JHR-RDC).

For the gender consultant, Anna Mayimona, this training offers an opportunity for women in the media to discuss about female leadership because there are still challenges to overcome.

« Although things have evolved, it was important to listen to the opinions of all in order to guide the actions to be taken by the partners and the media themselves, » she said.

Ms. Mayimona said the ultimate goal in considering women’s leadership is to make the media enterprise competitive. « It is necessary that men and women meet within the same editorial team because amongst the consumers, there are also women who want to learn something in the media, » concluded the consultant.

It should be recalled that this training workshop was held under the theme: « how to promote women’s rights by taking into account women’s leadership in the management of newsrooms« . This activity is part of the « Canada-World: the voice of women and girls » project.  CPA/
