Kasai Central: UNFPA support to pregnant survivors of sexual violence 

Kananga, March 16th, 2023 (CPA).- The United Nations Population Agency (UNFPA) has committed itself to supporting pregnant survivors of sexual violence for their socio-economic reintegration after childbirth in the province of Kasai Central, in DRC, CPA noted on Wednesday.

« UNFPA is ready to bring a plus in the life of these women in order to reintegrate them into the community and ensure their empowerment, » said the local representative of this UN agency, Ms. Angelique Dikoume, during an awareness-raising meeting. She congratulated the identification operation of pregnant minors supported by the NGO « Femme main dans la main pour le developpement integral, (Women hand in hand for integral development) » (FMMDI) in school environments with the granting of maternity kits.

« Have courage, it has already happened, life must go on, » urged Angelique Dikoume. She welcomed the contribution of the High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) for its support to these girls aged 13 to 16 years accompanied by their parents.

The NGO « FMMDI » announced that it will take charge, when the time comes, of the prenatal and maternity consultation costs of the children concerned. CPA/
