Kinshasa: the demolition of anarchic constructions programmed on Thursday in Matete

Kinshasa, March 16th, 2023 (CPA) – The demolition of illegal constructions along the public rights of way, within the framework of the operation “punching » scheduled on Thursday, March 16th, in the municipality of Matete and its surroundings, in Kinshasa, in Democratic Republic of Congo, according to a press release from the city hall, a copy of which reached CPA on Wednesday.

« In the framework of Kinshasa Bopeto, the general commissioner in charge of environment and city planning informs the people leaving in Kinshasa of the continuation of the operation this Thursday, March 16th in the municipality of Matete and its surroundings, » announced the general commissioner in charge of environment and city planning in that press.

This operation, continues the same press, « will consist in clearing public rights of way, eradicating pirate markets, removing wrecks and abandoned vehicles, evacuating makeshift kiosks and terraces, pirate garages, questioning sellers of water packaged in plastic bags commonly called pure water as well as evacuating black spots or pirate waste dumps to ensure the sanitation of the area« .

The population of Kinshasa living in the municipality of Matete and its surroundings, especially those who carry out activities on the public rights of way where the operation will take place is therefore called upon « to take the necessary measures to comply with the prescriptions of the Edit 003/2013 of September 9th, 2013 relating to the sanitation and environmental protection of the city of Kinshasa ».

« The offenders will be exposed to sanctions and binding measures applicable by the special unit for the protection of the environment, » warned the general commissioner in charge of the environment and development of the city. CPA/
