Kinshasa, March 17th, 2023 (CPA) –The Brazilian ambassador to the Democratic Republic of Congo, Roberto Parente, called on the United Nations Security Council to be more active on the security situation in the east of the country, during a meeting on Thursday in Kinshasa with the Congolese Minister of Defence.
« The UN Security Council must be more active on security issues in the DRC. These issues must be more present in the Council to have stronger discussions with other member countries, but also for the implementation of the mandate of MONUSCO, » said Ambassador Roberto Parente at the end of the exchange with Gilbert Kabanda, Minister of National Defence and Veterans.
The Brazilian diplomat believes that it is time for the Security Council to start serious discussions and take resolutions to end the insecurity caused by foreign armed groups in eastern DRC.
He expressed the wish to see Kinshasa and Brasilia develop their bilateral cooperation in several areas including defence.
« Brazil and the DRC are countries that have many similarities in terms of climate, forestry, security and agriculture. There are some solutions that have been found in Brazil that can be used here in Congo. In general, Brazil wants to work with the DRC to find a system of defence industry in the exchange of opinions, » he said.
