Early marriage in Equateur: sensitisation of girls in the struggle in Mbandaka

Mbandaka, March 18th, 2023 (CPA). – Young girls from some high schools in the city of Mbandaka, main city of Equateur province in Democratic Republic of Congo were sensitised in the fight against the phenomenon of early marriages and unwanted births during a morning organised by the female staff of the provincial direction of customs and excise (DGDA)/Equateur in calibration with the officials of the education sector.

« This awareness day is part of the awareness of girls on their rights, especially since early marriages and unwanted births penalize and spoil the lives of many young girls, » said Ms. Sabine Mussimbi Bibi, provincial director of DGDA/Equateur, before urging them to be patient.

She asked them to assume their responsibilities at the end of their studies, adding that the occasion was to sensitise them to the proper use of digital technology for their well-being. She stressed that these means of communication also concern women farmers in order to inform themselves about technics or methods of agriculture.

It is worth noting that this sensitisation was organised at Liziba, Elikya and Esengo high schools as part of the activities of the Women’s Month. CPA/
