Kinshasa, 18th March 2023 (CPA) – Colonel Jean de Dieu Mambweni was charged on Thursday by the Tribunal for the murder of two UN experts, Zaïda Catalan and Michael Sharp, after examining new evidence, at the High Military Court in Kinshasa, in Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
According to the prosecution, it was Colonel Mambweni who cooperated and used Kamwena Nsapu militiamen to physically execute these two UN experts. The prosecution submitted to the court: minutes, records of telephone calls as well as syllabi of different minutes of meetings held by the provincial security council of Central Kasai.
Colonel Mambweni admitted having received the two victims in his house on March 10th, 2017, one day before their visit to the Kamwena Nsapu family.
This accusation attacks the decision of the military court of the former Kasai Occidental which sentenced the defendant Colonel Mambweni Jean de Dieu for non-assistance to a person in danger, in this murder committed on March 12th, 2017 in the village Moyo Musuila in Kasai Central. The court adjourned the case to Thursday March 23rd. ACP/
